There are many simple things you can do as a business owner to go green and live sustainably.

The following tips can help you to create a positive business image, save money, and leave a better environment for our kids and grandchildren. If you are a business owner, commercial, industrial, or non-profit building owner or tenant, or a property manager, you can make your building and your business green by:

Reducing your Energy Consumption and Bills

Conducting an energy assessment (also know as an energy audit) or bench-marking your building through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager to identify ways to save energy and improve your building or business operations.

Participate in NV Energy’s and Southwest Gas’ commercial energy efficiency programs including:

NV Energy: Commercial energy efficiency programs and solar programs.

Southwest Gas: Commercial energy efficiency programs including energy efficiency rebates and promotions and the solar hot water programs.

Recycling

Waste Management offers curbside recycling bins (similar in size to residential bins) for glass, plastic, cardboard, steel and aluminum.

Conserving Water and Lowering Your Bills

Participate in the Water Efficiency Technologies (WET) program.

Offer Commuting Choices

Consider alternative transportation for your employees, customers and associates through the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC).

Take JAC (Jump Around Carson) Public Transit. Download their free application to locate a bus, find the nearest bus stop, see arrival times, schedules, fares and more!

Muscle Powered suggests that your employees bike or walk, or you offer telecommuting choices.

Doing Business Greener

Purchase environmentally friendly goods and products, such as ENERGY STAR certified products and appliances, water efficient fixtures through EPA’s Water Sense program, and avoid indoor household pollution from smoking, household chemicals, materials, glues, paints and coatings that contain volatile organic compounds.
